We’re into 2012 and my, my… this little site is still looking a bit spartan to say the least.

I have been busy wrestling with client work but I am actually pencilling in a day for myself next week so I’m hoping to get some updates in place then.

Judging by the calls I’m getting at the moment I think this year could be a busy one – hopefully it’s a sign that the economy is on the mend. Those of us working in the communications business seem to feel the changes first with the news always seeming to be six months behind reality with regards real ‘on the ground’ developments economically.

I think we’re entering the start of a climb out of the doldrums now – my spidey senses are tingling.

Now is a good time to start developing and implementing your communications and marketing for year.

Those smart military types have a saying*… ‘all good plans never survive contact with the enemy’ and I can say with some certainty that the same applies to anything that we try to do. Especially, as in my case, design work for yourself when your job is doing design work for other companies.

Once I had worked out what I was going to do with my own website several client jobs took over my time and left my own plans by the wayside.

I have managed to get a handful of logo designs up – hopefully I’ll have more of the site populated this week.

* In actual fact the saying was from a chap called Helmuth von Moltke he was a very clever man indeed by the look of it.

I think I was being a little over ambitious in expecting to get my own website populated with actual ‘proper’ content at the same time as working on client material. I also had to get the 2010/2011 accounts finalised and off to the accountants so that has delayed things a bit.

I have added a bit more content today though so I am nudging it along.

Need to sort out a few examples of logo design and website design work too – hopefully get something up shortly.

If you’re reading this then you’ve caught me with my web design proverbials down.

I’m in the process of migrating over to a new server so things might not work how you expect them to. You’ll also notice that the site is lacking in content (this is being remedied this week).

Finally, after many, many months of living in a perpetual state of ‘the cobbler’s children’s shoes*’ I’m putting together a website for my own business. The website is designed with simplicity in mind so if you’ve got any opinions on what you’d like to see from a web designers website let me know.

And before you say it – yes I know it needs a portfolio, that’s one of the things on my list for this week

If you come back over the next few days you’ll notice it morphing into the final item.

I decided to let it develop ‘live’ as a bit of an experiment. Plus – you’re probably one of very few people that will have stumbled onto the site in it’s infancy.

* The story goes that the cobbler’s children never had very good shoes as the cobbler was far too busy working on items for other people.
